Diabetes Type 2 Diabetes (diabetes mellitus), is a group of conditions resulting from elevated levels of glucose within the blood (high blood sugar). Elevated blood glucose is also known as hyperglycemia (American Diabetic Association, 2018). Types of diabetes include type 1, type 2, gestational, and juvenile diabetes. The blood sugar is the leading source of energy for the body, and originates from intake of food. The pancreas produces a hormone known as Insulin, which assist glucose within food get into the cells within the human body to generate energy. There are times when the body cannot create adequate amount, or no insulin. When this occurs, glucose will stay in the blood stream preventing it from reaching your cells.
