Singletary 1Auriell SingletaryHUM1020Prof. SmithNovember 17, 2016Word Count: 431Chapter 7 Discussion/EssayI have picked prompt 7.2 which deals with comedy as an art form. I will be differentiating between various forms of comedy, specifically satire, comedy of character, farce, and parody. The goal of all four is to get the audience to smile, but their techniques are varying.First off is satire, this is personally one of my favorite types of comedy. Satire typically works by making fun of something that the audience is already knowledgeable of. This typically includes some sort of current event, corruption, or happenings in society. A person whowrites satire wants the audience to enjoy the show on a light-hearted note, but also wants to send a message about topics of concern. My second form or comedy is farce. This is a more palatable form of comedy as it can berelatable to a larger audience or demographic. It draws laughter from the characters going through extremely physical and chaotic situations. It is not realistic and therefore lighthearted.
