Andrew Mena Professor Turnmeyer English 101 May 5, 2018 Reading Journal 5 Learning to Read by Malcolm X & Alex Haley Born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, Malcolm X was one of the most influential leaders of black America during the 1960s. Convicted of robbery in 1946, he spent seven years in prison, where he educated himself and came out as a well-educated individual. He was assassinated in 1965. In the autobiography Learning to read Malcolm X tells how the process of mastering the language of English changed his life. In the autobiography Malcom x tells of how difficult it was for him to do anything that when it feels he hit rock bottom in prison he’d just give up. It wasn’t until he stumbled upon a knowledgeable human being. He then wanted to be like Bimbi. Someone he met in his who’s knowledge ascended Malcom X. Malcolm X then became encouraged to learn and master the art of knowledge. He began to rent out dictionary’s in prison and study words he had not known before. Being in prison changed Malcolm X’s life to
