1.0 – INTRODUCTION The recent influx of sex offenders in Australia, and other countries like America. Has resulted in an exploding social and political war on whether a sex offenders registry breaks the right of privacy and other problems. A sex offender registry is comprised of a list of all sex offenders in a state, it is often most frowned upon in Australia due to privacy issues. In Australia this is governed by the child protection (offender reporting) Act 2004. The Australian legal system does not adequately protect and enforce the freedoms and rights of individuals. This is evidently shown throughout the attitude of Australian communities. In Australia the human rights conduct should be for everyone, the Australian legal system does not follow this and therefore makes the legal system unjust and unfair. Altering the law to include a sex offenders registry, with only limited information will not only adhere to the offenders but to the community without losing a person’s right of privacy. 2.0 BACKGROUND A sex offender registry is a list of all convicted sex offenders in a state. A sex registry generally includes relevant information about the subject for example address, physical appearance, any and every criminal history the person was involved in as well as release dates and charges[Ale08]. Individuals that are convicted of a sex offence will be found mandatory to register. It is typically normal that those convicted of a more violent crime are required to stay registered for a longer period[Que16]. Those offenders that are sentenced to community-based orders, including probation or intensive correction orders, are supervised by parole and probation officers[Unk18]. The registry must contain information in relation to each reportable officer. The registry must include: offenders name, details of each offence that has been found guilty or charged, the sentencing g dates, releasing dates and any other appropriate information that officials might find important to mention.
