APPLY AGILE TO PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDING PROJECTS Abstract Although there has been extensive evidence of effective Agile use in the software industry, there have been relatively limited researches and empirical studies in other types of industries and projects. Many companies are sometimes struggling with their traditional waterfall project management approaches when facing constant changes and challenges in non-software projects. Inspired by the benefits that Agile has brought to software development and IT projects, this research proposal’s objective is to explore the possible ways to apply certain Agile approaches to non-software projects so that an hybrid project management approach could help with the traditional projects by incorporating the ever-changing customer needs and responding to unpredictability. Particularly, a preliminary research through literature review is conducted to review the benefits of Agile projects and explore the ways how Agile can be applied to professional service providing industry. The results of research indicate that Agile is able to create values and leave out “waste” for projects within various industries beyond the context of agile software development. There have been many project management practitioners who already take preliminary steps and successfully implemented certain Agile approaches such as Scrum to improve project performance. More empirical researches are called for to further study the integration of Agile into traditional waterfall approaches. Based on the preliminary research, the author would like to continue detailed empirical research on this topic and integrate the research into a practical project management plan.
