LAB PRESENTATIONSTRAIN HARDENINGStrain hardening is thestrengtheningof a metal byplastic deformation. This strengthening occurs becauseofdislocationmovements within thecrystal structureof the material. From the experiment, it was observed that strain hardening results in the increase of yield strength and tensilestrength of steel. The steel coupon had a tensile load applied till it reached a strain value of approximately10%. The load applied was then unloaded and reloaded to show the effect of strain hardening. As seen in theresults, in comparison to the reference coupon the tensile strength increased by 27.2% and the yield stressincreased by 60.9%, whereas the ductility decreased by 55.7% showing the effect of strain hardening.RATE OF DEFORMATIONThe increased rate of deformation in metals corresponds to the rate of dislocation movement. The dislocationsdiffuse through the crystal structure, if the rate of dislocation movement exceeds the rate at which they diffuse
