March on Washington- Civil rights demonstration on August 28,1963, where the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Black Power- Post 1966 rallying cry of a more militant civil rights movement Détente- Period of improving relations between the United States and Communist nations, particularly China and the Soviet Union, during the Nixon administration. When: 1969-1979 What: Between the late 1960s and the late 1970s, there was a thawing of the ongoing Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. This détente took several forms, including increased discussion on arms control. Stagflation- A combination of stagnant economic growth and high inflation present during the 1979’s. In the 1970s , Keynesian economists had to reconsider their beliefs as the U.S. and other industrialized countries entered a period of stagflation . Stagflation is defined as slow economic growth occurring simultaneously with high rates of inflation.
