TELEMEDICINE IN RURAL FACILITITY2AbstractTelemedicine is the future of healthcare where providers can communicate with their patients virtually with mobile devices. Healthcare providers and their patients will soon have the ability to communicate vitals, blood sugars and general health information to their doctors for improvedpatient monitoring and chronic disease management. Its use will improve preventative medicine and provide resources to those who are too sick to travel or those who do not have the means.Problem StatementCanon Hospital is located 100 to 150 miles from any major hospital here in Texas. We consistently encounter missed opportunities in the treatment of patients who present to our facility with stroke symptoms. In addition to this these patients are often sent onto rehabilitation centers and step-down units for treatment following discharge from the hospital. In effort to bring out patient base and revenue back to our hospital we would need to expand our IT capabilities and branch out into the unknown world of telemedicine. The implementation of this technology will not only bring revenue back to Canon Hospital but provide our specialist direct access to patient records from tertiary centers and will have the capability to provide the same level of care as a typical office visit. Integrating telemedicine with the electric health record will improve provider communication and coordination of care, allow for the sharing of lab results, and discharge summaries. Technical, Clinical & Business Elements of Telemedicine“Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is revolutionizing human life and society. It is helping now to rapid exchange of information as well as to interact with each other. In recent decades, we are experiencing steady growth in the number of ICT innovation projects in the health care sector. ICT is playing an important role to improve health care for both

ICT systems are now being used to deliver healthcare across geographic distance through “Telemedicine” (Berg, Aarts & Van der Lei, 2003). Technical ElementsTo effectively implement the use of telemedicine at Canon Hospital with successful connectivity abilities at our tertiary facilities we will need several video conferencing systems, desktop cameras, teleradiology products, a strong proven telecommunications provider with experience in the industry implementing telehealth systems, home health monitoring devices
