EA Research Paper Zachman Framework
After doing brief research and reading on all of the possible Enterprise Architecture choices available for this assignment, I decided to write about the Zachman Framework. The Zachman Framework is unique in that it can be applied in various type of businesses due to its use of common verbiage and viewpoints for describing enterprise systems and roles. The Zachman Framework was published by John Zachman in 1987 for Enterprise Architecture and Information Systems Architecture. Instead of organizing the system development cycle in a traditional series of steps, Zachman decided to design it around the roles and responsibilities of key members of the process. As Collins states "The idea is that each stage accommodates different players within the system development effort, and each player views the system in their own particular way" (Collins). The Framework itself is made up of two different characterizations. The first ask the fundamental questions What, How, When, Who, Where, and Why as they pertain to the each of the different members of the project team. The second is derived from reification, the transformation of an abstract idea into an instantiation that was initially postulated by ancient Greek philosophers and is labeled in the Zachman Framework: Identification, Definition, Representation, Specification, Configuration and Instantiation (Zachman, 2008)
