Reading assignment: The Salem witch trials In addition to the American Promise textbook a good place to start for a brief background is http://www.nationalgeographic.com/features/97/salem/ Be prepared to discuss extracts from Witches of the Atlantic World. It is on e-reserve listed as Salem: A Case Study of the Primary Documents . You should have separate notes on each of the three historical interpretations—Upham, Matossian and Demos—with which you are presented. Instructions: As you read the assignment, answer each of these questions in your own words. This will aid your participation in the class discussion. Your answers are due at the time of class discussion, and you will receive ten points for completing them. They will not be closely graded; it is more of an issue of completing the assignment. However, do not submit others’ answers as your own work, as that is considered cheating.
