HY 104 – American Civilization since 1865 Module Eight Assignment Name: Assignment (100 points) At the end of World War I, the beginning of the 1930s, the primary interest of the United States and its government was to focus solely on internal affairs and to remain neutral in any international contentions that may arise. The ultimate goal of this neutrality was to better focus on America’s own issues, such as the economy, rather than external affairs. However, as the decade progressed, and with tension in Asia and Europe rising, President Roosevelt had no choice but to address the state of foreign affairs and became more involved on the subject. Throughout the early 1930s and through the FDR presidency, the US was overall fairly successful in their goal of remaining neutral.
