In chapter 2 of the textbook, population is one of the first topics to come up, and in whichit is big concern for society today. “On the last day of October 2011, Earth reached a milestone, welcoming its 7 Billionth human to the planet.” (Orend, 2013) The growth of the population is quite mind blowing when it comes to thinking about how far human life has come in the time that it has taken. The Earth'spopulation has grown from 1billion to 7 billion in a matter of200 year, however, keep in mindthat it took nearly 10,000 years forthe earth population to reach 1billion. In an article written in “TheGuardian” titled “Globalpopulation set to hit 9.7 billionpeople despite the fall of fertility” (Jones, 2017) This article breaks down the percentages and thegrowth of the population over the years of humanities existence and how it’s still striving even with low birth rates. This topic is such a major concern and, promotes a huge problem soon due to the carrying capacity of the earth. “China, the world’s most populous country with 1.4 billion people, is expected to be overtaken by India (1.3 billion) within the next seven years. From 2030,when its population is projected to reach 1.5 billion, India is likely to experience several decades of growth. China, on the other hand, is set to experience a slight decrease after the 2030s.” (Jones, 2017) Solutions have been put into place such as the one child policy in china. India is growing so rapidly that this policy is being discussed to be put in place soon. Even when fertility rates are down the human population still strives dramatically.
