Selected Patient For this discussion, an adolescent Hispanic/Latino boy living in a middle-class suburb will be the focus. Interview and Communication Techniques For the health interview with this patient, I would first give the patient the opportunity to conduct the interview in private, without the guardians present. Ball et al. (2015) explain privacy in this population is important because they may not feel comfortable discussing/disclosing private issues when a parent or guardian is present. Conducting the interview with just the adolescent patient and the provider also promotes confidentiality, which is described by Sacks and Westwood (2003) as “the cornerstone of any therapeutic relationship” (p. 554). Another interview technique for this patient would be to use open-ended questions and not push the patient to answer the questions. Ball et al. (2015) explain that this age group typically does not respond to confrontation. This could also damage the current rapport between the patient and provider. I believe it is important to treat patients with respect and speak to them

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
