THE EFFECT OF HOURLY ROUNDING ON FALL PREVENTIONThe Effect of Hourly Rounding on Fall PreventionThe World Healthcare Organization defines falls as an event, which results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the ground, floor or other lower level (WHO, 2018). Falls are theleading cause of accidental and unintentional death. It is estimated that over 646,000 people die from falls globally. Statistic also shows that about 70,000 to 100,000 hospitalized patients in the United Stated fall annually (WHO, 2018). The purpose of this paper is to enlighten healthcare practitioners on the impact of hospital falls and a possible evidence -based practice solution to reducing the rate of these incidents or bring them to an end.Identification of Clinical Problem/IssueThere are several factors contributing to the high number of fall incidences recorded in our hospitals. Certain medications are proven to cause dizziness/ drowsiness, for example pain medications such as Dilaudid, Morphine, Oxycodone etc. Low to nurse patient ratios, certain disease conditions such as hypotension as well as some patient care equipment such as IV pumpsall impede patient’s movement/gait, hence putting them at substantial risk for fall (AHRQ, 2013).
