International Women’s Day Speech It’s incredible. People have been saying that, it’s the 21 st century, and that anything is possible, yet since the beginning of civilisation itself women are still seen as weak, and vulnerable, and inferior. Why is it, that when anything is possible, women are still getting paid less, promoted less, and seen as less? In 1647, Margaret Brent demanded two votes from the Maryland Assembly: one as a landowner and one as the legal representative of the colony’s proprietor, Lord Baltimore. She was refused. In 1790, New Jersey gives the vote to “all free inhabitants” of the state. It is revoked from women in 1807. In 1868, The 14th Amendment guarantees civil rights to all citizens but gives the vote to men only. In 1902, women got the vote in Australia. In 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst founded the Women's Social and Political Union in the UK. In 1970, Germaine Greer published ‘The Female Eunuch’. In 1979, Margaret Thatcher was appointed the British Prime Minister. In 1988, Benazir Bhutto was made
