ArtifactWhat is your chosen artifact? Include a link to or a picture of the artifact. The Statue of LibertyI.Describe the artifactin detail. For instance, how would you describe it to someone who could not see it?She is a gift from France given to us on October 28, 1886. She is beautiful, strong and enormous in size, she is about 111 feet and 6 inches tall from head to toe, but because she stands in top of a pedestal foundation, her full size is 305 feet 6 inches from the tip of her torch to the bottom of her pedestal. She weighs 450,000 pounds. The outer layer of her body is made of thin layers of copper about the thickness of two pennies and because of this she was once the color of a penny at one point in time, but from years of weathering the copper naturally oxidized to protectthe metal underneath, making her the green color we all see today. She wears a long flowing dress crown on top of her head with seven points that represent the seven continents. The torch a symbol of enlightenment, she proudly holds high with one arm has aflame covered in 24k gold sheets. In her other arm she has a tablet with the date of independence July 4, 1776. At her feet are broken chains to represent the end of oppression and tyranny. She is onan island surrounded by water in the New York Harbour facing southeast welcoming all that see her.II.Choose elements of the artifactthat you believe are most important to how you experience it and explain why. For instance, what particularly catches your senses or makes you want to keep experiencing it? Does the choice of medium impact your experience? The Statue of Liberty is located in New York City. New York is my home and it hold a special place in my heart. Seeing her every time I go home to visit overwhelms me with love and emotion. I don’t get home as often as I’d like so I make it a point every time that I get on the ferry to get from the city to Staten Island to sit on the side of the boat where I can clearly see her. A sense of peace and welcoming comes over me whenI see her and the smell of the salty air that comes from the water she is surrounded by the sounds of the birds and boats in the harbour all bring me comfort. She is made of strong metals that make her strong and sturdy. Her appearance gives off a sense of strength that represents the people of her city and also the strength of those that seek a new life. For me it is the simple fact that she is always waiting for me when I go home and in her own way saying welcome home.
