BROWSER ADD-ONSOverview Add-ons are small pieces of software that can be installed onto abrowser. These can be things like bookmark tools, translation tools, ad blockers,etc.. There are various browsers available (i.e. Firefox, Google Chrome, InternetExplorer, etc.), so installing an add-on will allow for a function that is not alreadyavailable on that particular browser. Add-ons provide customization to a user’sbrowsing experience; however, they are provided by third parties. Wheninstalling an add-on, there is the risk of downloading software that containsmalicious codes. An add-on containing malware was detected for GoogleChrome. This malicious add-on is popularly known as Droidclub, and hadnumerous (about 89) extensions available in the official Chrome web store,before they were removed (Loeb, 2018). Droidclub has the capability to violateuser privacy by tracking activities through an attack called ‘session replay’. Themalware injects advertising into sites that the user visits for the purpose ofgenerating profits (Loeb, 2018).Perpetrator The identities of the Droidclub creators are unknown, but it isbelieved that the perpetrators are working in a group, and the same group is
