PICOT Statement 2 This paper will address how improving work environment and job satisfaction versus recruiting with sign-on bonuses to decrease nursing turnover rates in a nursing home, and improve patient safety and outcome. Problem Nurse shortage is one of the biggest problems that many organizations faces. Nurses are coming into the healthcare field, and quickly leaving current place of employment for assorted reasons, and even the nursing practice. High nursing turnover rates is a huge concern to many organizations, because nursing turnover is costly and not beneficial to patient care. One major reason nurse leave their previous place of employment because of poor job satisfaction and poor work environment (DATA BITS, 2015). It has been widely researched that nurses leave their current place of employment to go to another place (external turnover) or leave the nursing profession and change jobs or profession (internal turnover) due to heavy workload and poor- quality leadership (Adams, 2016). Many nurses reported that the workload was heavy, and they did not have interpersonal relationships or teamwork that made the working environment unfriendly and lacked warmth.
