Induced Electromotive Forces (Lab 7) Apparatus Electromagnet (long rod with wire windings on it) DC power supply Iron fillings (in a plastic tray) 200 turn pick up coil Galvanometer Compass Introduction This experiment will help to familiarize the use of electromagnets. Steps Turn the DC power supply ON. Set the power supply to the 0-35V/0-0.85A range. Rotate voltage and current adjust knobs fully counterclockwise Press the CC Set button and rotate the adjust knob (at the same time) counterclockwise until the AMPS display reads 0.80. Electromagnet Connect the electromagnet to the DC power supply. Turn up the voltage to 0.80A. Use a compass to check the direction of the magnetic field of the poles of the electromagnet. Reverse the leads to the power supply and check the poles of your electromagnet with the compass. Iron Filings Check that the current is still set to 0.80A and pick up as many iron filings as possible using only the point of the rod. Turn the power supply off. Without disturbing the iron filings, which are still attracted to the electromagnet,
