REENERGIZING EMPLOYEES AFTER A DOWNSIZINGAUSTIN 2There are several ways to create a motivating environment for employees that are survivors of a downsizing. A few ways of motivating and demonstrating employees may include: demonstrate you value the survivors, build self-esteem, focus on career development, build trust and acknowledge the emotions. The Big Five create the base to succeed in rebuilding after a layoff/downsize in a company. All of these are very important areas to focus on when reenergizing employees that have lived through a layoff/downsize. Question 1: Drawing on discussions of informational justice, how should Andrea approach the morning briefing? Should she be honest and informative in explaining corporate actions in the downsizing, or should she be more guarded? As chief editor, Andrea should attend the morning meeting with a tactfully approach. Recently, Andrea has overseen her employees go through a layoff. A scenario like this is when she needs to find ways to boost morale of the employees. Creating motivational environments such as showing value in the survivors, building the employees self-esteem, focus on career development, build trust and acknowledge the emotions they are going through are some keys in reenergizing after this event (Heathfield, 2018). Andrea should absolutely be informative when explaining the corporate purpose of the downsizing. This will allow an open discussion with employees to help lower their guard and reassure them termination does not happen without any specific notice. An immediate termination of employees would severely harm the company. Talking to
