APRN Consensus Model:The purpose of the APRN Consensus Model is to encourage and guide the states in adopting uniform regulation for APRN practice roles in an effort to address inconsistencies APRN regulatory requirements. The model applies the elements of the acronym LACE as the mechanism for implementation of the Consensus Model (National Council of State Boards of Nursing [NCSBN], 2018. The acronym LACE stands for licensure, accreditation, certification and education. Licensure grants APRNs the authority to practice, accreditation is the formal review and approval of educational degrees and certification programs, certification is formal recognition of knowledge, skills, and experience and education formal preparation of advanced nursing practice by granting graduate and postgraduate degrees (NCSBN, 2018). implemented. The Consensus Model and LACE have clarified APRN roles, credentials, licensure and educational requirements. Calkin’s Model of Advanced Practice Nursing:Calkin’s model was developed in 1984, to distinguish advanced practice nursing from other types of clinical practice with regard to personnel policies (Hamric, 2013). Calkin’s model depicts the ability of APNs to respond to a variety of health care problems ranging from simple to complex based on knowledge, skill and experience. “APNs, by virtue of education and experience, have knowledge and skills that enable them to respond to a wider range of human problems (Hamric, 2013, p. 46). Change Theory: Lewin’s Change Theory is considered the most influential theory of change in human systems (Current Nursing, 2011). Lewin theorized a three-stage model of change, known as the unfreezing-change-refreeze model that requires prior learning to be rejected and replaced. Unfreezing is the process involving finding a method of making it possible for people to let go of an old pattern that is counterproductive. There are three ways to unfreeze; increase the driving forces that direct behavior away from the existing situation, decrease the restraining forces that negatively affect the movement from the existing equilibrium and lastly, finding a combination of the first two methods (Petiprin, 2016).
