Flannery OConnor, A Good Man is Hard to Find In the end of this story, the Misfit shoots the grandmother and says that She would have been a good woman if there had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life. This means that if someone would have been there to threaten her she would have been a good woman. The significance of this to the entire story is that throughout this story all the characters were selfish and rude, even the children. In the story none of the characters were really good but in the end when the grandmother realized she was going to die, she was trying to be good Christian woman instead of just acting like one like she did in the beginning. If she would have been a good woman throughout the story, the family probably wouldnt have gotten killed...
