Interpretation of Literature Final Part 2 12/14/07 Jane Austen Ahead of Her Time The novel  Pride and Prejudice  is an entertaining love story that portrays , as far as I can  tell , how people found their partners in the author’s time. I get the feeling that Jane Austen is  almost making fun of this system through her character Elizabeth Bennet . The novel is accurately  described as presenting social realism because I believe that Austen is using the book to convey a  message of social protest . The novel holds up the social order that it portrays, but at the same  time Elizabeth Bennet helps to undermine it . It seems that all the characters in the novel, besides  Elizabeth , want the social order to remain the same. Elizabeth Bennet plays a very important role in the novel because she conveys Austen’s  view of undermining the social order of that time . Women of her time are supposed to become  “accomplished ,” in the social aspect the arts such as playing instruments, singing, dancing, etc.,
