Planned Parenthood Discussion and Reflection Report
Planned Parenthood refers to a not for profit organization that aims to provide reproductive healthcare and
assist in family planning. There has been a widespread debate over the legitimacy of Planned Parenthood’s
actions, which has led to conjecture about whether or not the federal government should continue to fund it.
The debate was sparked by several anti abortion groups with the Center for Medical Progress being at the
forefront, that released covert video footage of Planned Parenthood officials illegally selling fetal parts at their
clinics. This has caused several conservatives who were already against abortion to come out and protest
against Planned Parenthood, which has led to a national debate which is centered around defunding the
program.
Defunding the Planned Parenthood program would have a widespread societal impact. A major social issue
that was identified during the discussion on Planned Parenthood was the fact that underprivileged and poorer
sections of society would not get as much as much access to family planning resources. Planned Parenthood
has proven cases where they have helped families avoid unwanted pregnancies, thereby easing the process of
