Two sets of body cavities
dorsal
and
ventral
body
cavities
Dorsal body cavity
Has two subdivisions which are Cranial cavity and
Spinal cavity
1.Cranial cavity
a.Houses the brain
2.Spinal cavity
a.Houses the spinal cord
Ventral body cavity
Has 3 subdivisions and which are Thoracic cavity,
abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity (ventral body
cavity also houses the diaphragm!)
1.Thoracic cavity
a.contains the lungs, heart and mediastinum
2.Abdominal cavity
a.contains the stomach,liver and intestines
3.Pelvic cavity
a.Contains reproductive organs,bladder and
rectum
Integumentary system
External covering
(skin)-
waterproofs
(the skin)-
cushions and protects the deeper tissues-excretes
salts and urea- helps regulate body temp-has pain
and pressure receptors
Skeletal System
Bones -cartilage - joints- provides framework
-stones minerals-produce blood cells
(hematopoiesis)-Protects organs (ie skull)
Muscular system
Movement-3 types smooth, skeletal and cardiac
Nervous system
