OUR STANCE The second amendment needs to be amended for modern America to reduce gun violence. America is notoriously know for it’s country love for guns, and consequences of such can be seen in the amount of violence and causalities it causes. It is much too easy to purchase and own a gun and freely carry in public places, even with a permit. Gun violence is a stranger to no city in America, and unfortunately to it’s schools as well. Spreading awareness on guns, responsibility and misuse can have some impact to decrease unfortunate events, as well as imposing fines on illegal firearms. However, ultimate change will only be achieved by changing or refracting the Second Amendment. Keyma
RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS AND RESTRICTIONS Cook and colleagues (2008) further argue that for a civilized nation there is no need to tolerate a gun associated violence that most citizens have come to approve as normal. (Braga et al., 2008) further say that a nation having more guns for its citizens does not guarantee less crime as it has led to massive violence and more death. He further adds that gun regulation will facilitate safety among the Americans. Many who are against gun control have also supported their arguments. Based on research by Johnson (2016), limiting gun ownership will hurt the Americans as it will only encourage the outlaws to possess the firearms using them to harass other citizens. Tita and colleagues (2011) state that gun ownership will help citizens defend themselves from evil-minded people and that initiating gun regulatory laws will hurt the common citizens greatly. If, the American government decides to restrict the right to bear arms (Braga et al., 2008); then, it will be going against the constitution as which allows any citizen to possess a gun for protection Adil
ACCESSIBILITY AND DANGER AROUND YOUNG PEOPLE Each day close to twenty children die out of bullet firing while hundreds have to be taken to hospital for gunshot injuries. Easy access of guns to the children has consistently led to gun suicides among the teens in response to their emotional distress such as relationship troubles. Other children’s deaths have resulted from domestic violence and campus mass shooting, this traumatizes the children; hence, affecting their thinking too (Rossi, 2017). PREVENTIONS/SOLUTIONS AND CREATING AWARENESS Intensive society awareness should be conducted educating the citizens on disadvantages of careless gun possession as it has more negative impacts as shown below. Goss (2010) argues that when the gun is easily accessible even to the children they may accidentally shoot their friends or even themselves out of curiosity; hence, it should only be accessible to someone responsible. According to Dahlberg and colleagues (2004), quick access to firearms increases the risk of violence. They found out that currently guns are no longer used for self-defense, they are there to endanger others’ lives Adil
