Refraction occurs when the speed of light slows as it passes through a material. Rainbows are created when sunlight passes through water droplets. The introduction discusses the scientific principles and mathematical equations on refraction. The methods section explains the process of the experiment. The results and discussion section explain the outcome of the experiment. The conclusion ties the introduction to the results and mentions how the experiment could be altered for future exploration. __________________________________________________________________________Introduction: The physical principle observed in this experiment is refraction. Refraction is when light bends as it passes from one medium to another. For example, when a beam of light passing through air hits a window pane. When the light hits the window pane, part of the light is reflected back and some of the light passes through the glass. According to Wolfson, “refraction occurs because light travels slower in transparent materials than in vacuum” (p 487). The amount the light bends depends on the index of refraction of the medium.
