According to this organization, many inhumane crimes like this occur daily. Rachel Johnson English 105, Section HN 30 April 2007 A Call to Action From the darker, deeper side of advertisements reaches a burned hand along with a first hand experience of the genocide in Darfur, Africa. This ad effectively calls readers to take action against the horrible events occurring in the country daily through the use of ethos and logos. This advertisement was published in the magazine People in December of 2006. The year 2006 was the year that the genocide occurring in Darfur started to be very prevalent in American news. Americans began taking action and speaking out against the war crimes taking place in Africa and encouraging others to do the same. One way some organizations did this was through ads in newspapers and magazines. People magazine advertises to mostly women aged eighteen to fourty and, as a popular publication, has several ads, one being “Save Darfur.” The non-profit organization Save Darfur designed and paid for the ad. The one page spread, shown to the right, pulls readers in by enlarging a picture of a burned hand covered in what appears to be dirt and straw, as if the body had been buried.
