The Life of Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor was born in 1533. Her father was King Henry VIII of England and the mother of Anne Boleyn, his second wife. Elizabeth had a very unpleasant childhood. After Henry convicted Boleyn of high treason and having her executed, he denied seeing her most of the time. Also, during Mary I’s reign over England, they both got along well until Mary lost her trust and locked Elizabeth up in the Tower of London at the age of 20. When Mary was in her final moments, she unwillingly made Elizabeth heir to the throne. On November 17, 1558, she was crowned Queen of England, aged 25. Elizabeth was knowledgable like her father. She fluently spoke and read the languages that were appreciated by the humanists, Latin and Greek. She was also able to fluently speak French and Italian. She did not want to marry and turned down Philip II of Spain since she didn’t want to share her power. Elizabeth put an effort to maintain good hands with the English Parliament and she also wanted to unite religion with her people. She tolerated Catholics to some
