Chapter 15--Mass Communication Lots of these questions will come out of lecture and the class demonstrations and discussion. As communication moves from intrapersonal to interpersonal to small group to large group to mass communication, what is lost and what is gained in the communication process? The whole message gets lost, but it reaches a larger audience. How is feedback demonstrated in the communication process? How was it demonstrated in class? Facial expressions and body lang. The Shannon-Weaver model captured the basic model of communication, but it fails to demonstrated the multiplicity of feedback and transmission channels, and it fails to show "noise." What kinds of "noise" did we demonstrate in class? Channel and environment Chapter 16--Mass Media Effects When did the "hypodermic needle" or "powerful effects" theory get started and why was it abandoned? It got started with polio and it ended with vaccination and such The minimalist effects theory--or two-step theory--depends on opinion
