Novel Study How the Garcia GirlsLost Their Accents How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" by Julia Alvarez is a novel that belongs to the genre family epic. It was written in the United States in the late 1980s and first published in 1991. It is a narrative novel that is written in a shifting perspective and a reverse chronological order. The four Garcia sisters are sharing the role of the protagonist. Interesting that there are two plots in the story. One plot, where the family escaped from the Dominican Republic and moves to the United States where they adjust to that life and the other plot, Yolanda's own life story and the way she has learned to accept herself the way she is. I will focus on the first plot. The exposition in the novel is a little bit long and very detailed, mainly about the happy childhood of the Garcias sisters in the Dominican Republic. They seemed to be satisfied, and they think this is how they will grow up.
