EBP Recommendations 2 In order to practice medicine safe, effectively and efficiently, health care professionals must utilize the most up to date, correct information. With the advent of the internet and having so much more information available at our fingertips we must make sure we are using the best evidence to influence our medical decision making. So, in order to make a practice change, nurses need to filter through copious amounts of literature to make the most informed decision; so we use systematic reviews. Using meta-analysis or synthesis, nurses decipher variables, across multiple studies. There are many benefits to this type of research including a quantitative review of a large, and often complex, sometimes apparently conflicting, body of literature (Ganeskumar & Gopalakrishnan 2013). Furthermore, when researchers find similar data in separate studies, it makes the information reliable. Additionally, these studies should add more information to what
