Cell Phone Etiquette My friend, Edna, has a problem with cell phone etiquette, especially when it comes to text messaging and when she is driving. Whenever we have dinner together, she is constantly text messagingher boyfriend. It becomes rather irritating when you try to have a decent conversation with a person and all you can hear is her click-click-click of the cell phone buttons. Edna also has a problem with talking on her phone whiledriving. She is ten times worse of a driver when she is talking on her cell phone than when she is not. One time she even ran a red stoplight because of her bad habit. My goal is to decrease Edna’s frequency of text messaging while she is supposed to be having dinner with me and to increase the amount of time Edna does not talk on her cell phone while driving. Operant conditioning is a type of learning where behavior is strengthened by being followed with reinforcement or diminished by being followed with punishment. Reinforcement includes positive reinforcement which adds something pleasant to increase a behavior such as food for a rat after it finishes a maze and negative reinforcement which subtracts something unpleasant to increase a behavior such as a mother not yelling anymore after you finish a chore.
