Psychological Assessment Def: Process of systematically gathering information about a person in  relation to his/her environment so that decisions can be made, based on this  information, that are in the best interest of the individual. Steps in the assessment process o 1. Deciding WHAT is being assessed reason for referral forming initial questions or set of questions Depending on the theoretical orientation, it will impact how you  formulate what kind of questions to ask. o 2. Determing the GOALS of the assessment Diagnosis Severity: the degree of impairment, the level that the problem  interferes with their daily functioning Screening: identifying the presence of problems or predicting  who is at greater risk for developing problems in the future
