28/02/2007 19:58:00 Behavioral Assessment Based on behavioral theories of behavior o Environmental or situational factors lead to the initiation, continuation,  or termination of certain behavior. Only interested in observable behaviors Behaviors = learning history + current environmental conditions that are  maintaining/preventing behavior Goals To identify and operationally define problem behaviors and  controlling/maintaining contextual variables o Operationally: quantify behavior in a step by step manner To evaluate the relationships between problem behaviors and contextual  variables o How do these situational variables control the behavior o Functional analysis o ABCs: antecedent, behavior consequences To design an appropriate treatment based on assessment Methods of Behavioral Assessment Individualized: age, gender, culture is irrelevant Samples of behavior in specific situations
