Steroids in Our World With everything in the media today, being about physical image; it’s no wonder that steroids have become all the rage for people who want to tighten up their body and add a few pounds of muscle on their frame. (Campbell 1) One reason that steroid usage has become so common is the average individual does not understand the risks that he or she is taking when they stick that needle in their arm or pop that pill in their mouth. Another problem in our society is the so called “role models” that our youth are supposed to admire. The biggest and brightest stars in every major sport, along with several high profile actors have been accused of taking some kind of performance-enhancing drugs. (Campbell 1) If our heroes can do drugs and nothing bad happens to them, what is stopping the average Joe or Josephine from trying them too? There are more than 100 different types of anabolic steroids that are being used today. (Steroids 1) An anabolic steroid is the artificial equivalent to male testosterone. Steroids, like most drugs, can be put into the body many ways; they can be ingested by the mouth in a pill form, injected into the muscle with a needle and syringe, and they can even be in a gel form that is just rubbed on the surface of the skin.
