Stoichiometric Determinations Alejandra Nunez-McDermott, Zulema Lopez Instructor: Dr. Gevorg Sargsyan 1411 General Chemistry I, W03 Submitted – April 3, 2017 Abstract : Stoichiometry consists of determining the relationship between products and reactants in a reaction. In this particular experiment, we studied the reaction between hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). In doing so, we found the stoichiometric ratio at which HCl and NaOH react and the temperature change exerted throughout the reaction. To complete the experiment, we used styrofoam cups to hold the solutions/act as a reaction vessel and mixed them together with a thermometer to read the height of the solution’s temperature. From this reaction, we found the proportions by mass in which hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide react. Introduction : In the experiment, we used both sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. Sodium hydroxide, in everyday life, is used in cleaners, paper, and soaps. This compound is composed of sodium, oxygen, and hydrogen. Hydrochloric acid is used in things such as bulbs, fireworks, and batteries. This acid is composed of hydrogen and chlorine. When these two substances are mixed together, they react and produce heat. Chemical reactions usually produce or absorb heat and by

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
