Featherfall medical center should address the seriousness of violating health regulations and laws since they could lead to massive amounts of fines for the respective violations. The fines can negatively impact the finances of the institution that may hold them back from advancing. Having to pay these fines can hold them back from using that money towards advanced technology. Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) act was enacted to, “increase HIPAA’s scope of protecting the privacy and security of personal health information” ( Zeigler). The HIPAA Enforcement Rule provides different penalties of four levels of culpability, fines can range from one hundred dollars ($100.00) to one million five hundred thousand dollars ($1.5 million) (“Guide to Privacy”, 2015). The first violation, of the four levels of culpability is, the violator did not know and would not have known that they have violated the law.
