937 Geoff Walsham: Interpreting Information Systems in Organizations 1993, Chichester, New York: Wiley. 269 pages. The growing complexity caused by rapidly changing environments forces nearly all types of organizations to handle information effectively. In contrast to most contributions in the literature, which focus on the technical aspects of information systems with a positivist methodology and a rational-economic view, the author examines the social and behavioural impacts of information systems on organizations. The book tries to help the reader in his own process of interpreting computer systems. It provides an insight into information systems in organizations from an interpretive stance, thereby stressing various organizational metaphors. Four in-depth case studies are discussed using the developed analytical framework. The author concludes that technology does not determine social behaviour patterns in organizations, but rather that social stability and change depends on individual choices.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
