Reflect on your experience in this course. How might your writing (or the way you think about writing) havechanged? What lessons might you have learned or skills developed that you can apply outside of this class?Throughout this course the way I have thought about writing has completely changed. I learned that three-pointthesis’ and a thesis does not always have to be at the end f your introduction paragraph.During the writing process I have learned to outline everything that will be discussed in the firstparagraph of my papers. This allows writers to organize their papers in a logical manner andcreate topic sentences for each paragraph that follows the introduction. Moreover, the audiencewill be able to follow the author’s thesis by creating smooth transitions. I have also learned thatwriters should acknowledge their audience and explain any information they may not know sothey better understand the topic. This advice is helpful to authors because writing for an intendedaudience influences the tone and structure of the document. In order for a writer to create aneffective argument, they need to address the audience and appeal to them. However, this adviceshould not be followed if the audience is an expert with substantial previous knowledge of thetopic or if the topic is common knowledge. In this course I was surprised to learn thatprofessional writers do not always place their topic sentences at the beginning, middle, or end ofan expository paragraph. I always believed topic sentences should be placed at the beginning ofexpository paragraphs. However, professional writers use precision to determine the location andfrequency of their topic sentences for their thesis. I also learned that a T-unit is the smallestnumber of words used that can create a grammatically correct sentence. A T-unit is comprised ofthe main clause, all subordinate clauses, and non-clausal structures that are attached to orembedded in it. During this course I learned that a double entry notebook is a common device
