Hampton 1 Meghan Hampton Professor McMahand English 1101-15 2 December 2013 A Life Choice in Mary Oliver’s “A Bleeding-Heart” Seasons! There is only one that blossoms plants, spring. Spring always comes to bring the best out of people. Mary Oliver’s, “A Bleeding-Heart” shows the strength and reliability of spring. Her vision allows us to look intimately at a world not of our making. The rising each spring, and the joy of observing that rising, the persistence, the suffering, everything in the image of the "bleeding heart" is a clue to the missing pieces of ordinary but significant lives. Oliver’s metaphors compare an overly compassionate person to a garden plant. The poet poetry is grounded in memories of Ohio and her adopted home of New England. Her creativity is stirred by nature and filled with imagery from her daily walks near her home.
