NURS 6521 WEEK 5: RESPSONE 2 Larissa, A study by Faught et al. (2018) describes the current prescribing trends for new diagnosis of epilepsy and states that monotherapy is overwhelmingly typical with levetiracetam being the most commonly prescribed medication. Other common treatments for epilepsy include phenytoin, lamotrigine, valproate, gabapentin, and topiramate. Our text states that monotherapy of epilepsy is preferred as it increases compliance and improves management of adverse effects. The text also states that up to 75 percent of patients have complete seizure control on monotherapy (Arcangelo, Peterson, Wilbur, & Reinhold, 2017). References Arcangelo, V. P., Peterson, A. M., Wilbur, V., & Reinhold, J. A. (Eds.). (2017).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
