Naomi Rodriguez Myth Off to the Underworld As if my day could not get any worse by being sent to Tartarus by Poseidon, I could not find the entrance to the Underworld. I already had a rough, long day: being the CEO of an oil company has its own troubles. Today I had an off-shore drilling rig explode, dumping millions of gallons of oil into the Pacific Ocean off of California which is a huge issue. The main issue was Poseidon got really angry because of course his domain is the ocean and I allowed the killing of millions of sea life. The second issue is that California is in a big drought and oil began to seep into their water table which is their only source of water. Next thing I know I am standing on the beach watching the rig go up in flames and then all of a sudden a huge amount of water parts and out comes an angry Poseidon. Getting a long lecture out of him like a parent to a child about how important the sea is to him and other living animals, I got a one- way ticket to Tartarus. Finding the entrance to the Underworld was a lot harder than I thought. I spent so long looking for it that Hermes had to guide me to the entrance. Going down and through this cave was creepy, dark, and cold, but I did hear what sounded to be like water. A flashback struck me from high school mythology class, the water I was hearing was the Acheron, the first river you see in the underworld. It was no surprise to see others at the bank of this creepy, eerie river since people died at the same time for different reasons. A group of us stood together, no one said a word, I knew we were waiting for something. I remembered again, it was Charon we were waiting for. Then I patted myself down for an obolus, you cannot get across the Acheron without it or else you are trapped in limbo forever. Sure enough, I found a couple of quarters and dimes in my pocket from after I bought lunch. I was sent down here 1-2 hours after the oil spill which occurred right about lunch time. After searching for my obolus, Charon arrived. One by one we gave him our fare and climbed onto the boat. Not all of us can fit into the boat from a number of people that were standing at the bank.
