SURNAME 1 Student name Modulator Institution Date Macbeth There are many differences between different original versions from which we get our modern text of the Macbeth play by Shakespeare. The main difference in the versions os the setting of the play. The first version was made a long time ago in the 1600s making its quality old but the second version was made in the recent years in the 1900s. this can be observed by the effects of the lighting and the camera being of better quality. In the first version, the sound enables the audience to understand the play setting since it uses the scream and sounds made by the swords as they clash during the opening battle scene but in the second version, we get to hear bombs and the sounds of recent warfare. The lighting has an effect on the mood of the play. In the first version, there were fewer effects of light because technology had not yet been developed. In the second version, lighting is important because while the witches speak, lights go off one after another adding the tension of the play. The actors’ actions are different in the two films. The clothes of the witches in the first version speak with more vibration because they are very dirty and old unlike in the second version where the witches are dressed in the nurses uniform and speak with more confidence. The only act that I find to be much different from the original is the Sargent’s death and how he was killed by the witches in the second version of the film. The original version does not show how witches killing the Sargent. However, this makes the second version more captivating to the audience because it is so mysterious to watch the witches as they grab the sergeant’s heart.
SURNAME 2 Even though the setting of the two versions of the play is different, there is some similarity. In both versions, pauses are made when the witches say the word “king”. In both versions, the quotes make use of the Shakespearian language that is found in the original text. Generally, there is a similar acting and big difference when the two versions of the film of Macbeth are compared. In the second version, the camera angle and the light effects worked better probably because technology had already been developed when people were making this film. the story setting is the main difference. The first version seems to have ideas that are from the original play but the setting of the second version is in the modern world. However, both versions share the same ideas. the appearance of the witches is considered very important ion both versions of the film. This can be realized due to the light and sound effects that are used to create tension and pass a message that the witches play a very important role in the film.
