Standing vs. sitting Movement in the workplace contributes to the health of an employee. People subscribe to the belief that offices with high-end furniture are good for them, but they do not mind about lack of exercise. However, there are some workplaces where they have replaced office chairs with treadmills to boost their health as they work. Though the movements might be minimal, calories are lost in the process. The current workplaces which promote long sitting and desk jobs contribute to the unhealthy aspect among employees. A few work environments have adapted the system where employees work while standing or on the treadmill. It reduces the risk of contracting health conditions like obesity, heart problems, diabetes, and cancer. According to this article, people have different perceptions of how the workplace is supposed to be. For some, the comfortable the office furniture is the better the job while others value working out even at their places of work. Ignorance of the resulting health effects is no longer a threat to them. As a result, some of the exceptional health conditions like obesity, heart disease, cancer and stroke are high. The research focused on two variables which were the health of employees when sitting and when standing. A study was conducted in Australia to determine the results of the two aspects of the workplace. They discovered that there is a positive correlation between unhealthy conditions and working while sitting. They enquired if substituting sitting with standing would work or were they supposed to offer extra motion and activities. The results indicated that the number of women who were enrolled in the program were more compared to men. A good percentage of the population do not appreciate exercise and activity which was confirmed when ladies were asked about their husbands and could not give good answers on their exercise progress. The article played a big role in informing the society on the importance of exercise while working.
