PERSONAL WORLDVIEW & BUSINESS ETHICS 2 STEP 1 To what extent should personal religious beliefs impact our decisions about business ethics According to Business Law, personal religious beliefs should never impact any business decisions, even those pertaining to business ethics. From a legal prospective, religion and business need to remain separate in order to protect the business and employees. Freedom of religion is protected by the First Amendment. Citizens’’ freedom of religion is protected by two provisions within the First Amendment. The free-exercise clause and establishment clause are the two provisions that heavily affect the workplace in terms of religious beliefs within the workplace. Each clause protects an individual’s right to religion and force businesses to remain neutral towards the aspect of personal religious beliefs. From the sole perspective of business, personal religious beliefs should be left out of all decisions. However on a personal level, religious beliefs regularly impact our decisions about business ethics. Religious beliefs are the foundation of an individual's values and moral, which in turn influences the person’s ethical decisions and dilemmas within business. Business ethics should “tells us whether our behavior is moral or immoral and deals with fundamental human relationships—how we think and behave toward others and how we want them to think and behave toward us,” (Lawrence & Weber, 2017). It is my belief that due to corporate education, Christians attempt to separate religion and business, but its nearly impossible not to allow ones religious beliefs to impact decision about business ethics. Personal religious beliefs support the behavior of human relationships throughout life and should not turn off simply because one is making a business decision. To what extent do your personal religious (or non-religious) beliefs about life impact your sense of business ethics and personal decision-making?
