“Examine the view that Scott Fitzgerald presents the reunion as disappointing in this extract.” Scott starts to describe the atmosphere as “overwhelming”, showing that both Gatsby and Daisy are nervous for this reunion. The dialogue continues as Gatsby introduces himself again “we’ve met before”. Gatsby's soon said to have “Trembling fingers”. The adjective “trembling” conveys he is anxious and desperate for this tea party after not seeing Daisy for several years. He is not able to express his feelings towards Daisy, and therefore is nervous to talk to her. This can also be seen as metaphorical; Fitzgerald shows a representation of their relationship - its constant change. Later on in the extract, Daisy says “we haven’t met for many years”. “Met” suggests that their relationship wasn’t anything special, resulting in their distance for “many years”. She continues this idea when she says “matter of factly”, implying that she
