3 Stages of Prenatal Development Stage 1: Germinal Stage 1st 2 weeks after conception The zygote is the original single cell This cell has 46 chromosomes (1/2 mom/dad) It splits into 2 identical cells w/46 chromosomes in each one Each cell then splits into two more, etc
