Western influence plays an undeniable role in South Africa. In almost every aspect from sports to the University of Cape Town, western influence is prevalent. The question that needs to be asked is how dominant of a role does western influence have over South Africa and how does it affect South Africa’s unification as it transforms into a new post-1994 country? Depending on how western influence is viewed, it can be seen in two ways. One way shows how it is a tool to unify the country of South Africa, while the other way can be view it as a hindrance to South Africa forming its own identity. On 18 October 2007 at the University of Cape Town on the Jameson Memorial Hall steps, an event sponsored by KFC was being held. The event was a promotional campaign touring around different university campuses in South Africa. They had eating competitions for prizes, dancing, and rapping to get the students excited over KFC chicken. The host of the event attempted to get the crowd excited by making the audience scream and shout. Once she had gotten their attention, she proceeded to get the
