E01 Careers in Early Childhood Education 2 Objectives: Identify types of plants Students will work together cooperatively to create a particular plant wall Students will decide on how they will build and portray their art-work Students will make an oral presentation to the class explaining their work Materials: glue, coloured paper, craft materials of plants, crayons, scissors After viewing a video on the story previously read: Hansel and Gretel, class will discuss types of plants seen in the story while the children were lost. Students will be taken outside to explore. They will look for plants seen in the video and pictures. They will make special note of new plants (discovering). Samples of plants will be collected to bring back to class. Teacher would have prepared beforehand and brought samples of plants that are not in school garden. Students will group plants: vegetables, flowers and trees. Sample of small trees will be shown. Teachers will explain that these plants grow into bigger trees but these cannot be brought into the class. Pictures will be shown of these plants. Some trees in the school garden will be referred to. Other plants taken by students will grouped separately and will be focussed on at another session. Students will be grouped to create a plant wall on a particular type of plant. They will be given time to plan discuss and prepare. Teacher will discuss their plans with them and give support and give suggestions. Teacher will prepare space for group work and materials for each group. Materials will include all they need for the particular type of plant for the section of classroom. As a High Scope organised classroom, students will be able to locate any additional materials they need on their own. They will take the initiative to locate more materials since they are aware of where materials are located in the classroom.
E01 Careers in Early Childhood Education 3 Teacher will move around assisting and providing the necessary support. This lesson will follow the plan-do-review is a sequence in which children, will plan their activity, work on it and upon completion of their projects in their different corners will present to the teacher and fellow classmates. Teacher will assess students by means of observation. Teacher will look for participation, cooperation, wiliness etc. P art B In these lessons, students will understand the concept of “Understand Change”. They will see the change of whether patterns. They will also understand the change that weather will have on people’s lives and on the environment. Teacher will intentionally plan for students learning by choosing the objectives to be accomplished during these lessons and choosing appropriate activities to accomplish them.
